You might not want to ever look up and see the check engine light blinking on your dashboard, but this very important warning light is there to signal a problem that needs your attention, and in many cases, one that can be resolved quickly with your immediate attention.
First connect red cable to the positive terminal of your A6’s dead battery, then to the positive terminal of donor battery. Next connect black cable to the negative terminal of donor battery, then to the bare metal in the engine bay of your A6. Start the donor vehicle and then your A6. Remove the cables in reverse order.

I would go for a quattro all day long, either 2.5 or 3.0 tdi. The 2.7 is underpowered compared to the 2.5 tdi but its comon rail and more efficient. If money stretch go for a quattrob7 a4 with the 3.0 tdi and 6 speed manual box then get-it remapped ! 0to 60 in 6 sec. and enough torque to move the moon off its orbit !

I'm currently thinking about getting an auto A6 avant (2005-08), and after a fair bit of research it would appear that the 2.0 TDI is a ticking time bomb, and the CVT auto box is made of chocolate. The 3.0 TDI looks to be prone to injector problems, so is the 2.7 TDI Quattro with the multi-tronic box the most reliable engine

Problem is even if I get 6k back I won't be able to get another 3.0 TDI with my high spec. My friend who is a mechanic has offered to replace the timing chain, guides & tensioners but I'm not sure what to offer him, normal price is between £1500-2000 which i could never afford, would have to scrap it!
